This started as a still life drawing. I have a fake skull I bought in Mexico, and I drew it on 5/22/08. the drawing was unremarkable. In fact, I kind of hated it. The drawing was light, and lacked committment.
So, on 7/18/08 (a Friday), I got to have a talk with one of my friends I won't bore you with all the things we said.
After speaking with her, I documented most of the conversation on this piece. Writing completely filled the page surrounding the skull. And then I went about my darkening and mark making In the end I obscured more than half of what was written. Not really on purpose, I was working intuitively. When the values and marks looked right to me, I went back and re-marked words and phrases. I think some of the more important words were preserved. They are not able to be read like a book, But I think some of the ideas remain. I wish all the words could have remained, but my drawings aren't like that. And maybe, she would not want it all visible either.
I really like the drawing now. It may seem like inside information, and I guess it kind of is. But to me what I enjoy about it, is that a meaningful conversation, full of ideas and emotion, was captured and memorialized.
Now I'll be sure not to forget that day, that we had such a nice talk.

I would like to add, an apology, to her: I am sorry, for not asking you first. That was bad of me. bad chris, bad! bad!
I am a talker, no? LOL. Thanks for liking it! Thank you for looking at it Yoda! It seems I need strong emotion to make drawings with conviction. That this is about a friend pleases me. I need to make one about our friendship too. *ponders* Thank you for your comments and caring about me!

I just loved what you said about this. It has so many things around it, things that you didn't show but they are there
